Job Title: Simulation Engineer (AC & DC Interference Simulation)

Submit CV to: [email protected]

Based in: Manesar, Gurugram, Haryana, India

Business Overview

Based in Germany and with global presence, DEHN is the world’s leader in Lightning, Earthing and Surge Protection.

Reliable protection of persons, buildings, electrical and electronic devices and systems against the effects of lightning and surges is our top priority. Thanks to our expertise, dedication and pioneering spirit we have been pushing developments in the fields of surge protection, lightning protection and safety equipment for decades, making us a trusted expert in these fields. We offer a broad range of systems, products, services in the fields of surge protection, lightning protection and earthing as well as safety equipment.

Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced Simulation Engineer to carry out AC and DC interference studies on buried pipelines and other metallic utilities using simulation software such as CDEGS, Elsyca or equivalent tools. The interference sources include HVAC overhead lines, underground power cables, HVAC substations, AC/DC traction systems, HVDC systems (including monopolar and ground-return operation), foreign pipelines and CP systems, solar farms, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and other electrical infrastructure.

The engineer will own the study end to end: reviewing and validating input data, building the soil, pipeline and power-system models, running steady-state and fault simulations, assessing the results against international standards, designing mitigation, and writing the technical report and recommendations for the client.

Job Description

Data review and modelling

  • Input data: Review and validate input data from clients and site teams (pipeline route and coating data, power line and tower data, load and fault currents, substation earthing, traction and HVDC data) and raise data gaps early.
  • Soil modelling: Interpret field soil resistivity measurements and develop multi-layer soil models; validate them against the measured data.
  • Model building: Build pipeline and interference-source models in the simulation software, representing tower geometry, phasing, shield wires, cable sheath bonding, earthing systems and pipeline sections accurately.

Simulation, assessment and mitigation

  • Run simulations for steady-state and fault conditions.
  • Assess AC and DC interference risks, including induced voltage, AC corrosion, touch and step voltages and stray-current effects, against the applicable standards.
  • Design and optimise mitigation measures.

Reporting and client interface

  • Prepare clear, standards-compliant technical reports with results, mitigation design and recommendations for installation and monitoring.
  • Present results in client reviews and answer technical queries from clients, consultants and power utilities.
  • Coordinate with site teams to make sure the field data needed for simulation is collected correctly and on time.

Team and quality

  • Deliver multiple concurrent studies on schedule, with internal checking of models and results.
  • Mentor and review the work of junior engineers in interference simulation.
  • Contribute to modelling procedures, templates and continuous improvement of simulation practice within the team.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Education: B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Electrical Engineering preferred. Graduates in other engineering disciplines, or B.Sc./M.Sc. in Physics, with strong relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, with hands-on work on AC and/or DC interference modelling of buried pipelines.
  • Simulation software: Hands-on experience in building and running pipeline interference models in CDEGS, Elsyca or any other equivalent modelling tool. Candidates should be able to show completed studies they modelled themselves.
  • Power systems: Good working knowledge of power systems: overhead transmission line configuration and parameters, load flow and phase currents, fault levels and fault current distribution, substation earthing, shield wires, underground cable sheath bonding (single-point, both-end, cross-bonding), and renewable and storage installations such as PV plants, BESS and wind power plants.
  • Interference and CP: Sound understanding of inductive, conductive and capacitive coupling, AC corrosion, DC stray-current corrosion, and cathodic protection of buried pipelines.
  • Standards: Familiarity with the relevant international standards and guidelines for AC and DC interference, cathodic protection and electrical safety.
  • Communication: Excellent written and spoken English, with strong technical report-writing and client communication skills.

Preferred

  • Exposure to HVDC systems and AC/DC traction systems as interference sources.
  • Field exposure to CP and interference surveys.
  • Working knowledge of GIS/CAD tools (Google Earth/KMZ, QGIS, AutoCAD) for route and crossing data, and scripting (Python/Excel VBA) for data processing.

Personal Attributes

  • Analytical and detail-oriented, with the engineering judgement to question data and results that do not look right.
  • Able to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining quality.
  • Collaborative, with the ability to work closely with site teams, colleagues across DEHN and client teams.

Certifications

  • Training or certification from the software developer or an authorised training provider is preferred.
